Back in 1998, after graduating from Fuller Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree in hand, Pastor Steve and his wife Sonya packed up their belongings and newborn baby and followed God’s calling to minister to an English-speaking young adults group at Vancouver Philadelphia Korean Presbyterian Church.

Then in 2001, the senior pastor of that church commissioned Pastor Steve to begin a new church plant, along with several of the leaders of that young adults group. With a group of 11 members, New Joy Community Church was born – with the support and prayers of the first generation Korean church members and leaders.

Since February of 2001, New Joy has been growing in understanding and purpose of what God has called us to do. We are always in awe of what God has been showing us and what He’s been able to do through us as we seek Him and wait on Him.

These last few years have been particularly exciting as we have been praying for revival to come to the Lower Mainland and as we have seen God equip us to be a part of what He desires to do – bring people to the revelation of His real existence and the fullness of His power over all things on earth and in heaven. We’re thankful for what He’s done so far and excited to be a part of His story as He shows His love to the people of Vancouver!
